Biography

Evelyn and Devereux arrive like a trick of moonlight.

Fifteen years old, gray-haired, fair-skinned, and blue-eyed, the twin priestesses step out of Morgan le Fay’s carriage as part of her return from Avalon. At first, they appear almost too beautiful and strange to be real — elegant girls in blue and purple, gliding through courtly spaces with the grace of doves and the mischief of children who know exactly how much attention they command.

Then the magic begins.

A blown kiss becomes a heart made of frost. A dance becomes something almost supernatural. A look of offense can turn the air cold enough to make grown knights reconsider their words. They are playful, yes — but never harmless. From their first appearance, Evelyn and Devereux make it clear that Morgan has not returned from Avalon alone. She has brought power with her.

Their loyalty to Morgan is absolute.

They call her mistress. They defend her honor. But their true danger appears on the battlefield.

That is the unsettling beauty of Evelyn and Devereux. They are charming, funny, girlish, and enchanting — but they are also Morgan’s blades of frost. They do not yet carry Morgan’s full bitterness, but they are learning from her. They do not yet understand the entire cost of war, but they are already powerful enough to change one.

In The Knights with No Lords, Evelyn and Devereux represent the next generation of Avalon: young, lovely, loyal, and terrifying. They are not villains in the simple sense. They are disciples. And that may be more dangerous.

Because a villain acts from hatred.

A disciple acts from love.
